Martinez Academy of Arms will present a unique exposition of fencing weapons, equipment and art objects that showcase this art & science and its popularity among both men and women of the late 19th century.The exhibition will explore fencing weapons and memorabilia as artifacts of the material culture of the Gilded Age in New York City.
The quality of one’s weapons and training equipment were a reflection of position in society during the Gilded Age in New York City. It is important to understand these tools were often embellished and served as fine examples of decorative arts, produced by skilled manufacturers. Today, these items are viewed as fine representations of the excessive material culture of the time.
The exhibition is free to the public.
